Interactive signing of our Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence is said to be one of the most important documents in United States history. This great piece of American history was drafted by Thomas Jefferson in June of 1776 and has become our Our National Treasure. This national treasure can be found on display at The National Archives Building in Washington D.C.,  exhibited in the Rotunda for the Charters of Freedom.

Throughout the history of our great country many Americans have their own personal ways of expressing or displaying thier patriotism. I have recently come across a simple and fun activity the whole family can enjoy while expressing thier patriotism. I was sifting through the government archives websites reading up on the history of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and came across this a page enabling each of us wishing to have our own signature on the document to be able to do it! On the link provided below you'll find two "boxes" in the lower left hand corner, one says "Join the signers of the Declaration", click it, wait for a second and follow the instructions. It is quite a simple process and can be printed up in color or black and white. You get a choice of three styles of penmanship to imitate the signatures of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence. This could be a fun interactive project to do with your children for a school project they may have, or to just get your children involved and interested in the history of our great nation. Why not have each member of the family perform the interactive signing, print them up, put them in a frame and hang them on that empty space on your living room wall you've been wondering for so long would be the perfect thing to display there! Just an idea and a great way to show your American Patriotism!

I did it, and would have been proud to have been part of the Original signers. Those guys all paid a price and earned the the name "forefathers of our country".

That is a neat website, I will share with my kids tonight.

Thanks Jeremy

You know, it's funny to have stumbled upon this hub just now...on February 19, 2011, this was my Facebook status:

"I just reread the Declaration of Independence, and I am in awe. Without question, it is the finest piece of American Literature in existence. It has no equal."

I really was thinking about not just its literary quality and value but also about what those men were willing to lay down in pursuit of the high, high calling that was the founding of this great nation.

Great hub...and neat site!
