The Heart-Attack Guardian

Heart Attacks! We all know about them. We all will have that lingering fear somewhere within us as we age. The silent killer now has a guardian. Nope, it’s not the that little white aspirin in your medicine cabinet, but it might just tell you when to pop one of those!

It is a new device warns patients before the ‘earthquake’ strikes inside you. The AngelMed Guardian will warn ahead of time by giving a minute by minute electrocardiogram or EKG readings. At Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa Arizona, Dr. Alphonse Ambrosia oversees the study that began last fall (2010). He said “The device is designed for us to monitor people closer to pick up on recurring heart attacks at a quicker rate.” About 1000 patients will receive the AngelMed Guardian nationwide during the three year study. Five have already accepted the procedure. Donna Vicklun is one of them, undergoing the hour long surgery on March 10,2011. She said she feels lucky to be part of the study since having survived three attacks, the last coming in January, and losing all of her siblings to heart problems. She also stated “I was really very apprehensive at first, nut I am still excited about it.” The study will be made available to those over 65 who have had a heart attack or revascularization such as angioplasty or bypass surgery.

A briefing about the device...

The Gauardian is made up of an internal and an external part that is similar to a pager. This pager-like piece provides warning signals marked by an ‘emergency’ or ‘See Dr’ flashing light accompanied by an auditory signal andor vibration signal as well. A button can deactivate the alarm and has a “Do Not Ignore Symptoms” warning. A wire runs from the external piece of the device and is run under the skin ending where the “reader” is attached to the heart.

The nifty device...

Good information. Having lost a beloved 36 year old nephew to a massive heart attack 3 years ago, I urge everyone to get a heart checkup.Sometimes, you don't get a second chance a life.
